PASTURED LAYERS
Welcome to the second video in this miniseries about profitable regenerative farming that we’re hosting as we warm up for our Regenerative Agriculture Masterclass.
In today’s video, you’ll learn a little bit about how we run our pastured layer operation, an enterprise that I love for its ability to generate really good profits on a very small piece of land whilst rebuilding grasslands like you wouldn’t believe. It’s been incredible to behold the transformation of our pasture and I think it’s largely due to poultry.
Poultry are key to small farms, because we can have many of them in a small space and create animal impact. It’s a very low-cost enterprise to start up that requires very low daily input. Pastured layers is a really popular enterprise for good reason, and it’s a very complimentary enterprise that fits into many farm landscapes.
One thing you’ll need if you want to run a pastured layers enterprise is roll-away nest boxes. So today we’re gifting you the design for those from my book Ridgedale Farm Builds. You’ll find a link to the plans here on this page.
There are more gifts to come, so keep an eye out for email notifications when new parts in the miniseries are released.
And make sure you sign up for our exclusive live webinar 5 Principles to Run Your Farm By.
Up next: In the third video in this series we’ll be looking at grasslands and grazing and how we’ve built incredible amounts of topsoil in the short time we’ve been here through animal impact and clever use of a Keyline plow. Most of the grazing enterprises require more land and often more capital to get started, but they can build soil really quickly because of the unique properties of grasses and grassland ecology.
All the best,
Richard
